How to Set New Year’s Resolutions and Stick to them

As we enter another wonderful year, most of us are in the “this is the year I am truly going to stick with my new year’s resolutions and make it a habit for the rest of my life” train. However, 9 out of 10 times, that is not the case, as we forget about our goals by the time Valentine’s day comes around.

Most of us end up in this cycle of broken or forgotten new year’s resolutions and, as a result, drowning in self-loathing and guilt. You may be thinking thoughts like, “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I ever just stick with something for the long run? Why can’t I build healthy habits that I can sustain? Why am I so lazy? When will I change?” and on and on the cycle goes. If you can relate to what I am saying, or maybe you don’t find yourself in such an extreme position but still want to reach your goals more consistently, I encourage you to keep reading to find out some magic tips that will help you do just that.

The Problem

Let’s start at the root of the problem. You may be thinking the problem is that you just have set the bar too high for yourself and should lower your expectations, or perhaps you believe that the problem is that not everything is aligned perfectly for you to be able to reach your goals, so you must wait until everything is perfect. Well, I am here to tell you that both beliefs are not serving you in any way, shape, or form. I firmly believe that you can reach all of your goals, no matter what they are or how big they seem. There is no need to lower your expectations or wait for everything to be “perfect” to get what you want. What you need is a “mindset” change.

I know this may sound simple for the magic I promised you at the beginning but hear me out. The mind is the most powerful tool; it creates our realities and experiences, and if used correctly, it can help you reach all of your goals, no matter how big or small they may be. The first step to using this potent tool is to let go of perfectionism. There is no such thing as perfection, and if you continue to seek it, you will find yourself in a very frustrating position because you will never find it. Perfectionism creates a lack mindset, which is not what we want, and it’s also probably keeping you stuck in the cycle of broken new year’s resolutions. When we have a lacking mindset, we believe (consciously or subconsciously) that there is never enough, so as a result, life is meant to be difficult and miserable. I know many people in my real life who accept that as a fact of life, but it doesn’t have to be.

When we change our mindset to an abundance mindset, we experience pleasure and peace. We replenish our energies, find we can do much more with our day, and feel motivated and inspired by life. Also, when we can free our mental space from the things that are draining and nagging at us 24/7 (yes, I am looking at your guilt), we can focus more on our goals and intentions, which brings me to my next magic point.

Practice Intention

Be intentional when you are setting goals for yourself. When our actions are backed up by purpose and intent, we are far more likely to stick with them for a more extended period and eventually build habits out of them. Being intentional and breaking down your big goals into small actionable steps will be 2 of the most important steps you can take when transitioning this from a mental exercise to a practical plan that will serve you and get you the results you want.

Use a Planner

Finally, for a practical plan, you will need one essential tool, a planner. A planner will help you organize your time and map out your small actionable steps, making your goals more attainable, manageable and less overwhelming. However, the planner is not enough to get you to take action, you have to set that intention and follow through with it. This is why the mental part of this exercise is just as important as the practical part. With both of these pieces working in harmony, you will get much better results than you ever did in previous years, and the best part is there is no downside to this.

Through your planner, you can create healthy habits and routines that serve you and enrich you. Over time you can also start incorporating these tips into other areas of your life and not only limiting these powerful tools to your new year’s resolutions. These tips will come in handy by building habits that create a deeper relationship with yourself rooted in self-love, self-care, and wellness.

You can start by building a nighttime routine, taking a glowy shower, and treating yourself to only the best and most nourishing products for your skin. Treat yourself and your skin like the goddess you are, always giving it only the best. Especially now, as we are in the peak of winter, our skin needs all the love it can get. Practice setting an intention to lather your body in your favorite Modara Body Butter every night before you go to bed and watch the benefits of it over time. I promise you won’t believe the excellent results this simple skincare routine will bring you, especially in these cold and dry winter months, using only the best ingredients that mother nature provides.
